Gear puller spec

I need to go buy a gear puller to pull the pitman arm off the connecting rod socket. What specs do I need to figure out what type of puller I need.
I tried to fit a little one I had for pulling pulleys, but it wouldn't grab.
Any help would be appreciated,

Bruce, OTC and a few other manufacturers make a few pullers for that purpose. The OTC 7310A is designed for that job but I have used the OTC 7503 which works also. You can usually rent one from a parts store.
