A lot of the GL pictures either don't show the lower dash clearly or are very dark. is there a way to tell from engine compartment pics if a truck should have an air shift axle?

I'm nowhere near a parts manual or a truck to look at.

Here is a picture of my truck. The chrome knobs are heater and defroster controls and the switch is just to the right of the chrome knobs.
Good luck in your search. I also sent you a PM, Scott.

Yes, if the angle is right, you can tell from pics of the engine compartment. Post up a pic.

Depending on who installed the heater kit the knobs can also be way over to the left like in my truck. Sorry for the crappy angle but i was trying to get the actual wire and air atachments for another member rather than the controls.

If you look closely at the area just under the air governor, you can see the air line that goes down below! No air line= no air shift. As I said before, you have to have a decent pic at the right angle.

Stan's got a truck with the airshift lever, and a sprag transfer case. So even if it does have a switch, it may not have the airshift.

Whenever I bid on a truck from the pics I always look for the switch. I guess I could end up like Stan. To be honest if I looked at a truck in person I probally would just see the switch and wouldn't look close enough at the t-case to notice it. I guess I better start looking.

If it has this copper airline running down the top/side of the valve cover,(on the right hand side in this picture. The line connects to the air govenor on the firewall) it's a REALLY good possibility it has an Airshift.. (while it is possible a truck that had an airshift had it replaced with a spag, chances are low of that happening..)

I wouldnt put much stock in the "airshift gear shift lever" thing... Those are easy to replace in the motorpool...

No airline, definately no airshift...

Here is a good pic of the airshift lever thats on the bottom of the dash...
