So I was replacing my glow plugs got 7 of em out no problem except the one on cylinder 8 twisted off, the top of the plugs turns and seems attached to the rest of the plug by whatever is inside it. Anyone have a trick to get it out with out taking the head off? if I have to take the engine apart i will just roll with 7 working plugs. It starts fine and its fairly cold out also took it for a ride no problems noted. Been looking at a optmizer 4l80e combo anyways.

Tip is swollen, several threads on here on removing them. I have a special puller that has always worked. If they are not too bad you can get a vice grip on it and pull as you are unthreading and they will "thread out", some times you may need to pry up on the grips to get it to start threading.

its not a swollen tip I have dealt with that before several times. it is in there so tight the actual hex head twisted off the body of the plug when i tried to take it out.

Were you using a 6 point socket?

This happened to me too. Basically the base of the glow plug at the block starts to rust, a little bit of torque, and the outer housing fails, the top will spin, but she isn't coming out.

In the end I didn't bother removing it, she fires off instantly with just the seven!
