Recently we changed the fuel pump in the tank and since then the truck has to crank a long time before it starts, once started no problem. I checked the tightness of the bolts ands screws on the pump/tank and the appears to be no leaks. Any suggestions as to what the problem could be.

Open the bleeder screw and be sure the pump is working correckly. The attaching bolts and screws will make no difference. Did you tighten the hose clamps inside the tank good and was the rubber pipe in good shape?

Put a guage where the final filter air bleed is and see if you are getting 5-7 lb. with engine off and in tank pump running then RB.

As was suggested, check pressure/flow with a gauge and by opening bleeders or removing line connections. There are no gears to time. Look down in the tank with the pump running to see if you can see fuel being stirred by a leak somewhere from the pump to the top of the unit.
