I just became the prod new owner of a 1985 M1009 CUCV and a new member to this site. I've come to this site before looking for tips on what could be wrong with my CUCV and found some good advice on previous posts from members. I've tried a few things and the problem is not yet resolved.
Here is the issue I'm having- My CUCV drives around great in reverse but will not traverse in any other gear. I replaced all the vacum lines but didnt help. I have even downloaded the TM for it and have trouble shooted it that way but still got no results. I would appriciate any info I can get from y'all!!!! Thanks in advance for checking this out!:-D

Are you saying you have no forward motion at all?, if so it's most likely the transmission or torque converter. The lines you replaced will only cure shifting problems. We need more specific information.

Have you tried putting the selector in 1st instead of 'D'? It is possible you'll get forward motion, you'll still need a transmission rebuilt though.

Rebuild best left to the pros, if you take it out and land it there I'm guessing 7-800, if they do all the work 11-1200.

I built the the 700r4 in my 1028. It's not that difficult, th400 should be the same or easier. You need a trans jack, a good pair of snap ring pliers and a full tear down manual. There are some specialized tools but they can all be improvised.
