Heavier Axles and Frame on 5 ton

Has anyone ever put heavier axles under a 5 ton, like those from a M123, M920, or even a Hemtt? Has anyone ever beefed up their frame before? I know the wreckers and tractors and bridge trucks have a double frame behind the cab. Thanks in advance.

I have seen heavier spring packs put on 5 tons, but if you need a heavier frame or axles for your application, you are going to need a bigger truck!

I know it's a lot easier to get a bigger truck but the m123 and m911 are just so expensive and I don't really like the cab on the 920, I much prefer the 800 series trucks with the open traditional cab

Anything is possible with a little determination and hefty wallet, but why re-invent the wheel? Do what ya please but your talking about a lot of work for very little gain.

The top end on a M123 or M911 is around 45 downhill in a cyclone.....and they will both suck the bottom out of the fuel tank.

If you need a heavier truck.....buy a heavier truck that will be user friendly on the highway...otherwise you will end up with Frankentruck...friend of all trial lawyers.

Just my opinion for what it's worth.

Ya, I would think that if the truck is gonna see any serious time on public highways your better off looking for a more capable truck. I could see exceptions to this for specialized situations where the truck was used largely ( or entirely) off road.

That being said anything is possible but if your looking at extensive frame work I'd think about time+money on upgrades vs different truck.
