Help on Year/Serial# for SF97 - Bring home photos

I need that magic help from the plate numbers Gurus ! the first plate is a M818 and the other plate is a M35A2 W/W...not sure wich is the serial number and year.

About to send 2 requestes for SF97....Now,.....if I could get the first two pending back from GL would be nice, its' being a drag waiting for it !

Any help will be appreciated!

Don't know about the 5-ton but I have a little info on the m35a2. It was contracted in 1968 but most of the "0425-*****" trucks were built in 1969 according to DDoyles article in MVM.
DDoyle or medlog can give you more info.

5 ton is a 1970 per standard year guestimation(1969 contract truck) and teh deuce is a 1969(1968 contract date).

oh,normal guestimation practice is take the last 2 digits of the 2nd group of numbers and that is the year.Not a clean way to do it but that is normal practice.Fairly accurate from what I have seen but not true way to figure out the real year of the truck since there was no assembly line data like civilian trucks available to the public.

Top data plate photo is a 1970 - bottom plate photo is a 1969.

That will only work if the truck is made betwwen 1968 through 1972. If the truck was made 1982 through 1987 the year will be the first two numbers. All other years there is no way to tell just by looking at the numbers.

The odometer in this 5 Ton now show just over 7,000 miles, I guess it was replaced even that it looks in the same age of all other instruments.....I guess, most important thing is....look like the whole engine is fairly new, starts as fast as you can blink and stops really strong.....better than my Chevy PU
