Saw this in my doomscroll feed today, I always thought that BAE and subsequently Oshkosh supplied cab and chassis to Lockheed Martin for the assembly of HIMARS trucks. Nope, LM builds the trucks from the frame up right there in Arkansas.
My understanding is there was an airlift weight requirement that was painful to hit. For example that's why they have custom aluminum rims. I wonder if LM is building the whole chassis so they can omit unnecessary weight from the get go rather than have to strip it out later.
