HMMWV battery terminal covers

Been having some battery issues on M998. Have been prying the black cover off of + terminal cover to check voltage. Each time figuring the red part of the cover was going to tear. Finally drilled .080 hole in black cover so multimeter probe would go through to terminal. Don't plan on fording so not worried about hole. Could always plug it but who goes in water 60 inches deep in a vehicle they own!
