They are IR reflective panels, you are looking at the OFF side. When they are flipped over, they allow friendly aircraft to and armor to see the vehicle, and not blow it up.

Ha! Appears I have been misinformed. I always thought that explaination left a little to be desired since all of those panels are the same size and there is only one per side instead of the whole vehicle being covered. Learn somethign new everyday... :oops:

It's not IR reflective, it's Thermal.. And if you look closely at one firsthand, you'll see that there is the thermal tape thats on the aluminum...
