I'll start with " It's my wife's fault". I had a single cab , 4x4 1985 F250 with 460 and c6. It was a good dependable truck, but was lacking in my needs/wants in a truck. She told me one day "when we get the minivan paid off, let's get you a new truck". I know I wanted 4x4, diesel , and a crew cab. I did NOT want anything with any kind of dependability robbing emissions CRAP. So new was out and my hunt for what truck I wanted was on.
A quick backstory . I have been a mechanic all my life. I have been an owner operator of a repair shop since 2001. I have never had a new vehicle. I just grabbed what came along, fixed it, kept it up, and drove it until something else came along.
At the shop, we had Just completed a Cummins swap on a 2006 F250 , and it turned out really well . So that got my wheels turning , I can pick my drive-train and put it in what ever I want. Humvee was NOT the first truck I thought about , but the more I looked around, the HMMWV fit my needs / wants with a modular platform. Long story shortened , I bought one at auction and began the adventure. Working on it almost every day after work and Saturdays ( skipping Wednesdays, Sundays, and holidays) It took me about one and a half years to do the swap. Wife named it "Rosie".
As of 12/29/2024 she has a little over 41,000 mile on her since the swap with very minimal issues to work out and normal maintenance.
