How safe to spray water in engine compartment?

Ok, I've got various grease and oil on parts that I want to clean off so I can start fresh and get an idea of what's leaking.

This goes for both the engine compartment and directly under the engine. The oil pan has oil on it, various lines have oil/grease on them, etc... I want to clean everything off.

How safe is it to spray water in the engine compartment? How about the underside? Will I mess up my generator or starter?

Deuces were made to go through shallow water without too much prep.

Get some good degreaser and spray it on when the engine is warm (not hot) and they hit it with a pressure washer or high speed hose nozzle. That will knock off light crud and let you see where stuff is leaking from.

If your local self service car wash has a truck bay you can take it there and not worry about the residue getting in your yard.

Yeah, I'll probably take it to a self-serve car wash to do this.
If your car washes are anything like they are here you need to take a sh!! load of quarters. I hadn't been to one in years but used one a couple months ago. I think I can buy a high temp pressure washer for what 3 or 4 trips to the car wash costs now.

I throw a large freezer bag on the alternator and spray the engine compartment with simple green; then I use a garden hose...sometimes I just sit on the radiator spraying and spraying thinking about nothing. Hmmm...that's probably a sign of something. :cookoo:

BTW you can sit on the right side of radiator at the corner.
