So, I have about 8K in the back and will be towing about 8K. How much additional heat should I expect in the hubs...Tucson to New Orleans? Rebuilt brakes, new seals and boots, cleaned and re-packed or replaced bearings [w/0.04-inch shims] last October. ~2600 highway miles since then.

Tucson high the other day was ~ 108.

If you burn your hand, your in trouble!

THe hubs will be a lil warm but not much more than normal, these trucks can carry alot of weight

Apoc with 46s can handle 5tons of gravel on the highway and still do over 65mph!

I usually monitor mine pretty closely during and after extended driving sessions. In my personal experience, I have always went by feel. If they're hot enough that you cant hold your hand to them, then something is wrong. When I rebuilt my axles and brake system I just used the info in the Tm's for torque specifications.

Thanks for the feedback. Hubs were hotter than I was used to feeling during shakedown runs in Tuson, but it was HOT there. No heat issues based on the hand-on-the-hub technique. All in all, a slow and uneventful trip, save for several lights burning out.
