Hydro boost/ power steering question

Yesterday when backing up I noticed a noise that wasn't there before.
it happened when I turned the wheel from center about a quarter turn and heard a 'squishy' fluid kinda hissing noise.
Very much the same noise you get when you turn all the way and hit the stop of the wheel.
I heard that noise also when driving sometimes. The wheel feels slightly stiffer to turn, but I could also imagine that.
does it mean
1) i need a new hydro boost
2) there is a check valve with a broken spring maybe that opens with too little steering pressure (wishful thinking)

or am i wrong all together with this and there is some air in the lines.
PS fluid level is good

Sounds like it is almost time for a new power steering pump. It would be good to flush the entire system and get new fluid into everything and then change the pump. You don't want to run old fluid/ metal particles through the new pump.

Also, check/ grease all your tie rod ends and kingpin bushings, jack up the front end and turn wheels side to side to distribute grease evenly with no load on it. It could just be a dry joint but I doubt it.

TM says if brakes have excessive travel in brake pedal or hard to turn steering to check, rebuild, or replace power steering pump. My truck is doing the same thing, I checked TM in trouble shooting section.

Agreed, but since it's pretty easy to do, and dirt cheap, and ought to be done anyway, it make sense to do it.
