Installation of CUCV LED taillights

I thought I would document the installation of the LED taillight kit that fits CUCV’s from LMC truck parts.

Here is the kit; it has the LED array and pretty much everything you need.

Second picture is new taillight lenses...they make a big difference.

I first took the old lenses off, and then the light housing is held on with 4 Phillips head screws. Once you get the housing off you can twist the light sockets out.

Next you want to identify the taillight/stop light socket as it’s the only one with 3 wires: yellow, brown/yellow and ground wire that’s black.

Cut the socket off and strip the three wires.

While I had the light housing off I cleaned and painted it silver again, and cleaned the ground wire to the body from the wire harness.

The way you install the LED array is by passing the mounting stud through the taillight/stop light socket in the light housing and using the supplied mounting hardware to attach. At the same time you also pass the wire from the LED through the supplied hardware and these wires you attach as follows: Yellow from truck to red LED, Black LED to brown/yellow from truck and green from the mounting stud to the black wire from the truck.

Then just put everything back the way you took it off. I installed new bulbs in the reverse lights and side marker lights. The new LED's look stock except when they are lit. I think they are brighter than the old bulbs and with the addition of the new lenses makes a big difference. :)

Yep, as a matter of fact I was thinking the same thing and last night went out to see how they looked and because it was raining couldn't get a photo.

Some autoparts stores sell replacement LED bulbs that fit in the original socket. Get one of those for the back up light and you'll really be in business. Good install. I have also painted the housings with chrome paint which makes it really reflective.

They are made by Truck Lite and is a new product for 2012 were only the 7" round were available. Part number is 27450C and a set is about $500, but they really put out allot of light reading valorous reviews.

However in my opinion the H4 glass replacement halogen lights do a good job and is about $120 with the needed headlight relay harness. I have these on my M1009 and they are 100x better over sealed beam. If I did have $500 to through away, I would get LED headlights, but the H4 replacements are just fine.

Sorry to go off topic, but was just answering the question.

As for the LED taillights, not my cup of tea, I like the good old halogen light look. If the lens was changed to more fluted it would better spread the LED light it would probably look better. But with the stock lens it just does not spread the LED light like I would want.
