Just how big is an M35A3?

The A3 has not proven to be a good unit... Cat Diesel, automatic and CTIS all on a platform designed in 1949... The FMTV is a poor copy of a old foreign design... the new Marine Corps Oshkosh is the cat's meow... RAM

MTVR hardly is in the same universe as the M35A3. A3 was intended (and was/is) a cost effective way to upgrade the light truck fleet (circa mid/late 90s).

The alternative? To properly fund replacement of the tactical truck fleet including 100% of the M35 series. Anyone now..... Why didn't THAT happen????

It never ceases to amaze me the number of clueless individuals (like reporters) that complain that "our troops are using trucks over 40 years old".

What they don't realize is, if it works - WHY CHANGE IT?

HEY GENERAL, PROBABLY BECAUSE IF IT AIN'T GOT A RADIO, HEAT AND A/C NO ONE WANTS TO DRIVE IT. MY BUDDIE PICKED UP A 63 BRIDGE TRUCK ALL DONE OVER BY UNCLE SAM , FROM A TOWN AUCTION FOR $250,THEY USED IT PLOWING SNOW ONE STORM ,AND THAT WAS IT ,NO ONE WOULD DRIVE IT AFTER THAT.GOOD FOR MY BUDDIE .

Right on about the 55 years of service. The other thing to consider is most tactical truck stateside are just used for training and meanial task. When my truck got its discharge it only had 12500 Mi. and 480 hours I know sitting isnt good but after you get out the dry rot and other things these m35s still have a long life ahead. I for one dont see these overgrown Izuzus called an FMTV doing the same thing if we have any sense they wont have a long service record.

I've driven an A3 once. Good power but still a deuce. I haven't driven an FMTV so I can't compare.

The best truck I've ever driven was an M930 dump. It would flat our go anywhere. A dump with a tarp is the best RV short of an RV!!!!
