Yes they can be rebuilt, I seem to recall one of the vendors here, perhaps Superman, having the diaphragms. If you are confident in your understanding of what needs to be done to restrain the beast, it is not that complicated. But it is one of those evolutions where a mistake can kill you and that may give some pause to attempt it.

Of course it is always easier to replace…
