Looking for a Rockwell axle torque spec

My front drive axle (5 ton M813) is leaking from the input shaft bearing retainer and I want to torque these bolts down to see if it will stop the leak. What torque should these bolts be at and do we have a separate TM for Rockwell axles like we do for the NHC250 Cummins?

You mean it's leaking from between the housing and the bearing retainer?

If so............

under that seal housing are shims, they're how you preload the front and rear pinion bearings. In a 2.5 ton, they look like this:



So, there's no gasket and you're not supposed to put sealer (like RTV) on them, although you can use that copper sealing spray on them.

I doubt any of those bolts loosened up, unless someone's been in it to replace a pinion seal. It's probably seeping past a shim(s).

You can try double checking the torque, but when that doesn't work, plan on pulling the housing off and inspecting it.

Thanks for that info. I tightened them to 60 lb-ft and at least two bolts were about 3/4 of a turn from tight and only one bolt was already at 60 lb-ft. I still need to clean the existing leak and then take it for a test drive to see if the leak has subsided.
