Loud gurgling noise coming from turbo while system has air pressure.

Okay, I posted something similar to this last year. My health has kept me from doing any work to the deuce, so I still haven't diagnosed the problem. The truck starts and runs fine, but when you shut off the engine, there is a loud gurgling noise that seems to be coming from the turbo slobber tube. It sounds a lot like a sink draining. Letting the air pressure off the tanks stops the sound immediately. Now I am seeing what appears to be black oil coming from the drain on the right air tank. I can also hear gurgling, "pinging" sounds coming from the air pack at the same time. No air pressure, no noise. Let it run and build air, same noise. I am also losing brake fluid somewhere, but, as I said, my health hasn't allowed me to get started on it yet. Why would pressure on the air system cause these sounds on the engine? Is there a way the air system could leak into the engine? I know that sounds silly, to me also, but I don't have a clue.

In retrospect, the deuce probably wasn't the best choice from someone with muscular dystrophy (adult onset), but I'm sure my fellow green addicts can understand the "need". I was just hoping I could drive it a while before having anything major break. Thanks. Larry.

I had one gurgle just as you report and it was a bad air pack(blowing out the air vent tube that was connected to the slobber tube pipe).

Later trucks had the air vent tube separated from the slobber tube(and run up near the air governor).

I would remove your vent tube and see if oil expels from the vent upon shutdown.

I agree with doghead. If I had to guess it will probably be brake fluid causing the gurgling noise. This would also explain the brake fluid loss.

Thanks guys. Would also explain the excess fluid coming from the slobber tube last time I drove it. Just put that air pack on last fall, but I bought it used (only $70, but looked almost new). Guess it's coming back off. Already have the rebuild kit.

Good luck! If you can, I highly recommend bleeding out the brakes. My truck had terrible corrosion in the wheel cylinders and I hope others avoid what I've went through fixing it.

I bled the entire system last fall when I installed the air pack just to be safe.
Pulled the air pack off today. Had fluid coming out of every hole. Taking it to a local machine shop to have them rebuild it. Decided to rebuild the master cylinder for good measure.

Oh, gotcha. Was worried there for a minute. Just make sure they follow the proper rebuild procedures from the tm. Also note that one of the seals is shown in the improper orientation in the rebuild manual. Someone will probably post up a link here to show you the proper way.
