M 1008 Alternator lost magic blue smoke

Alternators needed to be replaced so bought two new ones from. Installed both that are isolated ground 12 volt 100 amp. Wiring correct on both, old capacitor on on gen 2 places on outside. Connected batteries and passenger alternator smoked also something on fire wall. I have no idea what could have gone wrong. So both alternator s are isolated grounds. Any ideas? mattsmoski@centurylink.net

Did you double check that the alts are isolated ground? They are pretty rare, so if you didn't check it for yourself with a meter, that's the first thing to look at.

Smoke on the firewall area is probably a fusible link. Lots of info on them in the Helpful Threads sticky, located at the top of the CUCV forum.
