Hey, y'all, now that the auction is over, I think I am permitted to write about event 3973, lot 5870, a M1010 that GL mislisted as a "M1009 ambulance".
I was up in Richmond on Tuesday, and I took a good look at this CUCV. She's a beauty. Since I had my M1009 with me, I also had my handy key. FYI, 5870 does not turn over -- batteries are dead as a nail. The other bad news is that the driver side door has been smashed in. The good news is it looks repairable, and the window is intact. Don't know about the regulator in the door because I didn't try to roll it up or down.
The back door is locked, and I did not see a key for it. The typical CUCV key does not open that lock. The handle is similar to the handles on the back of a camper shell.
The tires on the truck are in great shape. The dashboard is like new -- no cracks. The seats are not ripped, and they are in good shape -- including the jump seat in the back. The door between the cab and the rear functions well.
I lifted the hood and everything in there looks good, too. It has the two alternators and the AC unit for the patient area. I didn't see anything that caught my attention under there.
The paint is generally pretty good, but the hood has some surface rust. The rest of the truck has a spot of rust here or there, but it is all surface rust. The typical rust-through spots are solid on this vehicle.
Overall, the vehicle is in REALLY good shape with the exception of the dented driver door. I think those 20 some odd k miles are accurate. Someone is in for a real good time with this one!
The pics I am posting are from GL's website. If you bought it and you have any questions, give me a holler ... you lucky bloke!
