We (jwaller, me, and some others) need to get the M-75 APC from Missoula, MT to Columbia, SC. Mapquest says it's 2375 miles, mainly on interstates. Here's the catches: it weighs 42,000 pounds, it's 112 inches wide (think WIDE LOAD) and 109 inches high (think low boy, preferably with a front drop loading capability). It will have to go through 10 or 11 states on the way, almost every mile on interstates (I-90, I-29, I-70, I-64, I-57, I-24, I-40 and finally I-26). Where it sits now is 200 feet off a paved road and the seller is only available on weekends to help with loadout - he does have the capability to drag it around, but a heavy duty winch on the trailer might come in handy. We would like to get it moving within the next five to seven weeks (or less). There will have to be some funds raised to pay the bill, which could delay the start of the trip.

e-mail me if you are interested or know someone who is. Once we have an idea on the cost, we will explore further contacts since we can be flexible about the arrival date.

EDIT:

I guess I should elaborate. If you can get it to a local railyard with a ramp, you could have it shipped via flatcar. Might be cheaper. Let me check with the rail agent we use.

I had asked about that, but was told the blocking and chaining down on a flatcar would negate any savings we might be able to realize. I'd like to prove them wrong, but do not have my hopes too high.

Who told you blocking and chaining would cost alot? If you pay the railroad to do it, they will gouge you. If you have the manual for the M75, it should list everything you would need (blocking and chains) to strap it to a flatcar, including diagrams.

Let me get you a quote for a flat going from there to here, and I'll get back with you. We maybe able to work something out.

If not, I'd like to ride along as 'support personnel' :-D
