which should give you 2900 engine rpm.
It really loves 45 but that isn't always practical.
I stay at 55 in mine and have topped 60 on downhills.
I also get 20mpg.

Yes it can go faster if you want to replace/rebuild engine sooner than later.
Engine redline is 3600

It depends on the tire size too. I went a step "bigger" to 285/75-R16s (largest tires that will fit without a lift) so I could feel comfortable at 60 on the highway. I usually shoot for a 55 cruise, but 60 is possible without feeling I'm thrashing the engine. Due to the gearing, it doesn't feel doggy even when towing a trailer or carrying a load.

I have 37 inch tires on mine and it still likes 45! And I wish I could get 20MPH, this last trip I pulled 13.33 MPG at 52-55 MPH!IMG_1134.jpg

My Sons M1028 A1 goes 76 MPH flat out on the interstate and it drinks fuel about 12 MPG pulling a trailer with an M1009 on it. My Son tow barred my Terminus M1009 up I 81 N at about 70. And I seen the speed signs 2 miles before going into the construction zone. It said 72 and dropped to 70. Mine read 68 in my M1009. His m1028A1 has 24 bolt HMMWV wheels with 37 " BF Goodrich Baja Claws on it and gets about 12 MPG. He has the pump set up and single exhaust. Runs great and goes thru the mud and climbs like a mountain goat.DSCF2072.jpg

I drive my 86 1009 100 miles per day, it's my only vehicle. It was regeared to 4.56 gears I drive it at 65 mph via GPS ,as speedometer is off .tachometer reads 3000 rpms. I have spun it up to 83 mph once tachometer read 4000 rpms.,yikes! I normally get 15-16 mpg. I do run Rotella t 6 and 2 qt filter and change the oil every 2500-3000 miles. I look forward to a 700r 4 transmission and a regear to 373s or 3.90 gears to get better mpg.

The 37's give me about 8 extra MPH to what the speedo is showing but I still keep the speed down, I don't want any more problems than I have to have. Besides I am now retired "and have no where to go and all day to get there!"
