I am new to this site, but I came across this when I first started having problems not too long ago. I recently got an M1008 and everything was running fine for a little while until I started it up and the starter stayed engaged. I hurried up and disconnected the batteries but before I could get the main negative disconnected the horn started going off, so then I had to scramble to disconnect the main positive (a little embarassing when your in the grocery store parking lot when all this is goin on). After I got the batteries disconnected I noticed some of the wires on the glow plug relay smoking and melting. I got the truck home and later on ending up replacing the glow plug relay, starter relay, and starter. I started the truck and the same thing happened. So I looked online and came across the doghead relay mod and tried that. When I try starting the truck, Im getting nothing (but at least the horn isnt going off when I connect the batteries). Does anybody have any suggestions as to what the problem might be or what I might try? Any help would be appreciated.

I think you should get the wiring diagrams from the TMs and check your fusible links. Those wires you saw burning were probably those links. Don't go by the visible look of the wire, test them out.

Do a search, this has been covered many times.
