A bunch are using the AB15 base with MS116/117/118 mast. The 118 has to be cut so the TOTAL length, base included, is about 110 inches. I'm in the process of doing this setup for my M1009, and I'm almost done. You can G--gle these components. I got mine from a surplus radio supplier for roughly $50. I had a piece of sheet metal cut and drilled to fit my existing bracket - much easier than mounting the correct bracket. My original bracket's center hole was to big. Hope this helps.

Search is your friend. There are a few threads on this subject. There is even an antenna base / mast combo that does not require any cutting, and fits the CUCV antenna mount without any adapters needed.

Actually, the MS type sections are hard steel tubing with light copper coating. If you crush them they split so you can't cut them with pliers or diagonal cutters. Not even a tubing cutter works. Best way to cut them is a grinding disk, or score them around the outside with a file then break them, and file down the sharp edges. Be sure to plug the cut end with epoxy or RTV to keep water out. The steel will rust from the inside.

The antenna needs to resonate at the transmitting frequency to avoid reflections back into the unit. This both maximizes power transfer and avoid overheating the final amplifier stage of the CB. 110" is the best compromise resonant length for the 11 meter wavelength that the 40 CB channels fit into. 110" is 1/4 wavelength and forms half of a 1/2 wave dipole (the vehicle body/frame acts as the other half called a counterpoise). There are other lengths that one could use, but 110" is best. 220" is next.

Thanks much, You have a talent that I hope to acquire some day. :D I ordered a ab 25 with the mast, so I'm all set now for when it comes. Now to figure what the best cable to is to hook it up.
