why on earth would you want to go to the dealership and get a fuel tank? you must have lots of $$$$$. JC Whitney has the tanks and senders along with Autozone and all the other auto parts places. If you can find a "S.P.I" wholesaler or a "automotive cooling specialist" that would be the place to go.

Autozone fuel tank # GM15B $129.95 for a 25 gallon.
straps # ST12 $39.95
Sending unit # FG 12A $102.95

I do not want to go a dealership for the parts! I would like some help with the part number as that is something that will be compatable.... I was hoping someone would have a part number or gouge to use at the local parts wholesaler to use as a starting point.... their parts book shows several sizes/types and none seem to directly match the one that is on it. Thanks

the correct autozone #'s are above. The M1009 tank is 25 gallon. Really any size tank should fit just need to get the straps and sender for the size tank you want.

The GM Part # is 14050685 according to the 1984-87 CUCV Parts and Illustration Catolog. This book was provided to GM dealerships across the country for local procurement of unique and common parts that the various CUCV trucks used. I'll provide a scan of the page with the tank and components for your perusal. If you have any problems trying to save the image to your computer (so you can enlarge it, etc.), email me at abroadbent@bellsouth.net and I will be happy to forward the page as an attachment. Thanks to all for some good info.... I am back to the parts place and with some luck I will see a big increase in fuel mileage and less leakage around town!

Thanks again,
Kyle

You know, I have 2 M1009's that I'm parting out. One was in a front end collision and the second has a rust hole in the roof.

Not sure what the cost is on a new one but seriously doubt it would make it cost effective to not get a used take off from the numerous members on here with good tanks that no longer need them.

Just my 2 cents.

I was going to say i've seen several tossed too. Not worth saving since they are hardly ever needed. Actually, twright has one now, just sitting there behind the shop. Shipping would probably be bad though.

Would concur the shipping is an issue but considering we have numerous folks coming from NY to Aberdeen in just a few weeks, it might be cost effective to ask for assistance. I know Doghead and JATonka both live in the rough vicinity of Rochester. And last I heard both of them are coming to Aberdeen.

Better to have the OE part instead of some sheetmetal made who knows where!

Right...sure...cause everything in the aftermarket is junk and we should always pay the extremely insane prices GM always wants at the parts counters for stuff they haven't made since the early 90's.

$73 CDR valves come to mind.

JCWhitney sells tanks and I think they even have the poly tanks. No more rust issues. They even sell the bigger 31 gallon tanks. There's even bigger than that if you want to really go crazy.
