would like to put 33 inch tires on the m1009 and have a little clearance. how much lift would make a nice fit and look and what the best kit or best way to lift one of these and make it a better riding vehicle?

Suspension wide, they are just a regular civilian Chevy. You should be able to put 33s on it stock. At most, you might need a tiny trimming at the rear of the front fenders. If you want no trimming, just a couple inch lift is all that's needed. 3" is more than enough, although anyone I know with 3" used 35" tires. If you use stock wheels the tires will fit the best. Some people use wheels with less backspacing which pushes the tire further out, and those usually end up rubbing more when turning.
