M1009 Tranny auto downshift help

OK, guys. After much searching and researching I have decided to start a post. My TH400 in my 1009 will not downshift at stops. Upshift works, kickdown works. If I stop at an intersection in 3rd, it tries to start in 3rd, but there are 2 distinct thumps as it down shifts to 1st (near WOT). If I manually select first, all is good. New VRV, lines are good, new VR adjusted nearly open, new fluid/filter.
What next? I know I am missing something simple...

Thanks for the reply. May be interested...use regular gasket maker or is the gasket readily available?
