There were 3 different output shaft lengths on the TH400. You'll have to change yours or the whole transmission to work with an NP205.

You will need the adapter whether it be the figure 8 or *round pattern* (EXTREMELY hard to find and quite expensive when you do!)

You'll need a new rear driveshaft because chances are the 205 you get will be fixed yoke and not slip yoke like an NP208.

You may or may not need a new front driveshaft, depends on what output yoke/flange the 205 you get has.

And obviously, you'll need a 32 spline Chevy NP205 and a shifter!

3 output shafts is true, but the NP208 version and the round pattern NP205 share the same output shaft. The other two are the NP203 version and the figure 8 NP205 version. Avoid those if you don't want to change out or rebuild the transmission.

I would look for the round pattern NP205, shifter and adapter. Found in ~'85 and up Chevy K30 civi trucks. You will want to grab the driveshafts from the donor as well. The front shaft should work in your M1009, but the rear shaft will need to be cut down and then run an adapter u-joint for the rear axle.

Okay so I'll ask this dumb question. The HMMVW has either the 218 or 242 are either of these compatible with the M1009?

I don't remember which side the tcase drop is on for the HMMVW. I believe they used the same TH400 transmission though, so if they drop on the correct side it may be possible to use them.

Got a bunch of NP218's if you need one of them.....Bought them just to have for my M1009 too. Has fixed yokes so a change will be needed for the rear driveshaft.
