sorry-Yesterday I went to start my m1009 (civ mech. bypassed the starter and put on a toggle). White smoke came from the dash and crackling sounds proceeded. I removed the dash and found the toggle switch had burn marks, and so did the volt/bat gauge and the wire connections (wires fried from the gauge to the separator)-help.

Oh...... the magical Smoke Jeannie!!!!

Was this the first time you attemped to start it with the "new" wiring job?

Why did he put a toggle switch in? Was sometime wrong and not working?

With the wiring being modified we will need a bunch more info and pictures if available.

Sounds like there was a short somewhere or he combines the 12v and 24v systems by mistake.

Without pictures or a wiring diagram, you may be on your own.
