M116a3 trailers

Good news. I just won three M116a3 trailers, and my buddy won two.

Bad news. Trying to find a trailer to haul all five trailers up to northern Ca.

Plan A: was to bid on four trailers and drive down with two pickups and stack two of the trailers on the top of the bottom two.

Plan B: Is to take one truck, rent a trailer and load all five on it.

Plan C: Find a trucker that can load all five and bring them north 600 miles.

Plan D: Leave one trailer at a friends house near Barstow and bring the other four home via Plan A:

One issue, is I have a 2012 Ford 6.7 PSD. 3.31 gears. My friend has a 1998 Dodge 5.9 diesel with 4.11 gears. At 55 mph his truck is about done. His fuel bill will be about twice of mine, if he tries to stay up with our Ford.

Even with the tongue folded down, I don't know how you're going to get 5 trailers on one flatbed trailer.

Got a 5th wheel hitch? Mebbe you can rent a double-decker car hauler?

Those trailers were one of the best deals I have ever seen come out of California. Average price of about $150 I believe, before fees. OUtstanding.

I would just remove the wheels and small parts like landing gear, wiring and lights, and scrap one of them locally. You could use the gas money anyway, and I'm sure you got at least one rust bucket in the bunch.

We are about 200 plus miles north of the Bay area. Redding.
Barstow is 600 miles south of us.

The three I purchased are actually in very good condition. No rust or dents. Great paint and near new tires. For the three, they averaged $210 each. Still a great buy, especially because of the great condition.
My bidding strategy, is to bid on the very best condition, and pay a little more.
Repairing a item that is in questionable condition, most of the time costs more.

You should be able to run them on a pretty short trailer by backing them on ( with the tongue down ) and backing the next one on over the top of the first one and so one then fold up the tongue of the last one. At worst you could get three on one bumper pull trailer( car hauler type, 16' ) and pick the best most road worthy of the bunch and put the last one on top of that and pull it with a second truck.

In the drawing, if they are tru 116's without boxes on them, I think you could get them even closer together.

Yes they are the flat bed type. I hope you are right. It would make it a lot easier to put them on our 16 ft. car trailer.

I hauled 2 M101's with 2 M116's stacked on top on a 16' trailer. Lots of straps, 100 miles or so with no trouble. I think you could easily strap 3 on the deck, then once they're fixed and stable, stack the remaining two on top and strap them down. Nothin' to it!

I hope you are right, because as it is now, it is a 1200 mile round trip. I would hate for it to be a 2400 mile round trip.

That is a bit steep in price, but that would solve the problem. The base "Yermo" in Barstow does not have a forklift to help load.

Yikes, that's pricey. But, it does solve your problem if there's no forklift at the base. You might end up really screwed if you have to leave one there and they decide to charge you $100 per day for storage or something.
That's a pretty long haul. I can understand why you'd want to get it right the first time.

Maxtor, can you post a pic of your 16' trailer please? I'm pretty certain that you can get 4 on the trailer. With a pic I can brainstorm and compare it to my notes. If the trailer has a decent length tongue there should be no problem nesting with half of one hanging over the front.
