-A3s are from a rebuild program. It is said that on average it takes 3 donor trucks to make up an -A3. the do have 3116 Cats IIRC and Allisons in them. Super singles and CTIS is also on them. There are a few of them out already. One came out of CA a few years ago. I think some of the manuals are on Logsa too. They're peculiar looking with the headlights relocated to the fenders. They are also almost DOT compliant with marker lights and backup lights. Thats about all I know.

HRD;
Here in Evansville, IN the Armory has a fleet of them and here's the low-down on the A3. The rebuild program promised much more than it delivered. The auto-inflation system is frought with problems. All it takes to mess it up is any type of abrasive impurity between the wheel seals and it's done for (anyone want to use their truck strictly for highway use?). The transmission and the computer controling it is worse. Sustain a speed of 45+mph for a period of 30 minutes and the computer starts giving faulty breakdown codes plus the transmission starts to shift down from overdrive irregularly due to these codes playing with the computer. The Armory has done away with the auto-inflation system on some of the A-3's and salvaged transmissions from other non A3 trucks to do away with the faulty Allison automatics. The bottom line from the maintainance shop is to aviod buying these trucks unless you want some good parts trucks for the bodys, frames and other parts except the transmissions and tire inflation systems.
