In reviewing the "genuine" military disc "EM 0037" dated 1 SEP 04 for the 2.5 ton truck, I can not find a MWO for the winch installation.
I know that there have been many past questions in threads about this topic but one small Historical Detail calls out to me.
If any of you out there are still in the active duty or very recent status I ask this of you.
Let’s say that your unit has a M35A2 truck that was produced without a winch and for some reason the mission changes and your commander now needs a winch on your truck.
During the modification procedure, do you install a small data tag similar to the MWO tag for seat belts (small triangular shaped) on the driver's door post or does a larger one get installed on the dashboard near the data plate or is there a such thing as a generic MWO plate with several blanks that is installed and then stamped or vibro-etched as time goes by with each new upgrade or modification?
I'm only guessing, but is there a tag that looks like a Rebuild Tag that would work for this?
Lastly, since the truck was produced with or without a winch originally, it is identified by digits in the serial number, so it "should" be historically incorrect to install a new full tag that says "With Winch". Would this be a safe assumption?
Inquiring minds need to know.

What you speculate is not that easy to do paperwork wise.. Mechanically wise, yeah, add the new winch in a day's worth of turning wrenches... Paperwork side, your now getting into MTOE authorizations, items with different NSN's, and a whole new ball of wax's problems. If the mission changed, the MTOE would also, and items would be added/removed based on the new mission. I'd hate to be the CDR who "authorized" this when the Property Book Officer comes to inspect things.. It wouldnt turn out well.

There is no MWO to add a winch to a truck, so no MWO tag would be needed..

There are only 2 MWO's for the M44 series.. One dealing with asbestos in the vans, and the other for adding seatbelts.

M35 Winch

I understand the situation. Probably never actually done by the military as you mentioned.
I was not sure but your statement makes perfect sense to me now.
Thanks,
Jim
