There has been alot of talks about the need for a M35A3 Forum because they are "different" than the M35A2 and which is better.

This thread was NOT started to continue that debate, So PLEASE do not start one here or I will delete this thread.

The purpose of this thread is to list the unique items and compile all the info into one place.

The M35A2 trucks are of the M44 family and the M35A3 truckss are also of this family.

The Military decided to upgrade the existing fleet of M35A2 and they where rebuilt under the Extended Service Program (ESP).

They wrote new Technical Manuals for the trucks and these manuals covered the items that where unique to the trucks. All of the items that are shared are covered in the M35A2 manuals.

See the attached picture from the TM 9-2320-389-24-1 manual, page 0001 00-1, Paragraph "c".

IF YOU DONT" HAVE ANY INFO TO ADD, PLEASE DO NOT POST TO THIS THREAD.

So for the first post,

The technical manuals for the M35A3 are the following:

LO 9-2320-386-12 - Lubrication Order
TM 9-2320-389-10 - Operations Manual
TM 9-2320-389-24-1-1 - Unit Maintenance
TM 9-2320-389-24-1-2 - Direct Support
TM 9-2320-389-24P - Parts Manual

If the item you are working on is not in the above manuals then refer to the M35A2 manuals.

TM 9-2320-361-20 - Unit Maintenance
TM 9-2302-361-20P - Parts Manual
TM 9-2320-361-34 - Direct Support
TM 9-2320-361-34P - Parts Manual

There was a question asked about the torque rods (dogbones) on the M35A3 compared to the the M35A2.

The rods are not covered in the M35A3 manuals so you are to refer to the M35A2 manuals for the repair/check and part number.

The rods are the same and have been visually verified as such.

Here is a picture that caused some confusion.

The bigger rod is for the M809 series trucks and the smaller is for the Deuces.

The A3 tach is an electronic one, Dixson 49556. Nearly impossible to find but there are commercial equivalents around, esp for marine applications. It is fed off a magnetic sensor on the flywheel housing.

Any 24 volt marine or industrial tach that works off the flywheel will work. Probably can rig one up off the alternator, I don't knw. The flywheel has 125 teeth, this info is needed to program an after-market tach. The one I chose is a Murphy ATHS-40-A The "H" in the model # refers to hourmeter which is a digit instead of the original analog. The last "A" in the model # is for black stainless bezel rather than shiney.
