m37 genator kept spining,motor off

burned up my belt had to unhook bat. cable to stop spining,ign.in off pos. I think this might have happen before but didnt see it,but belt was broken.any body have ideas?

sounds like its been wired up wrong, i heard of something similar a few years back on a pleasure boat on a volvo engine, guy stopped the engine and the alternator kept running

Did any miswiring cause the generator to become a motor?

im not too sure to be honest, it woz almost 20yrs ago but if i remember correctly there was a short somewhere along the line
