How far down do you need to set those concrete bases? Does the whole structure undulate from the freeze/thaw cycle in the winter? Forgive my ignorance. Very cool stuff. Looks nice & sandy. I'm guessing the soil drains well before it can freeze.

Wow you guys have to dig DEEP up there to get below the frostline. In No.VA it's about 16" below ground level.

Great pics of the 816 in action!

LOL, our frostline is about 500 miles.......north of here!
Just have to watch out for sink holes right Kenny.. The old M816 is turing out to be a "rusty but trusty" work horse. She purred all the way home at 53 MPH.. All the power I would ever need.. I think the pump is turned up? .. Like Dave said you will always wonder how you got by without it.. But, my back remembers how.. LOL..
Over half the footings for his barn called for a 30" x 10" slab 48" into mother earth.. We had some soil/cave in/rain/water issues so we had to form them up and poor them up top and then drop them in the hole.. Worked good with the cable down option. :D I am happy with my purchase thats for sure..

Dave, you didn't want to break out the M819 for this job? :?:
my M819 seems to have developed a issue in the turntable. we started out using it and switched to the M816. no time to dig into it yet. that should be a fun job hoisting that little crane off her perch. if it doesnt weigh to much more than 16,000 i can do it with the digger truck.
