Hello All,

I am a newbie and have searched but haven't found exactly the info I am looking for, I apologize if I missed it. But. I'm soon expecting delivery of my new 817 and am trying to figure out if my plans are realistic/safe. I live on 3500 acres in the mountains of Colorado and the 817 will be the new workhorse for the ranch. Some basic upgrades that it will arrive with will be the 46in singles, and the turbocharger to counteract that wonderful altitude power loss. One of the chores for the General will be to haul water for ranch use, the tank will be a 1000 gallon horizontal poly, removable as to keep full function of the dump. My question is this. The tank I am looking at is nearly 62" tall, by my calculations this would put the top of the tank higher than the cab protector by a foot or so. I have added 8 D-rings inside the bed for attach point. I am wondering about stability on/off road with 4 tons of water head high on those singles. Anybody out there ever had any experience with something like this??

Maybe a purpose built baffled tank would add a lot of saftey.

I have a 1000 gal round poly tank that I haul occasionally full of water. I never drive with it less than full. Even then, I feel it slosh. And that's just driving about 6 miles on blacktop. No off road at all.

Doghead,
Thank you for the response. I plan on baffling the tank and hope that helps with the sloshing issue, do you know how tall your tank is, does it ride higher than the cab protector?? Is yours the cummins and how does it handle the weight? I will have about 60 miles of dirt and blacktop to get the water back to the ranch, and then it will be all dirt road/off road driving.
Thank you for the help. Say hello to Upstate for me, don't get back there too often.
Nick.
