M818 Transfer case stuck in low range

I have the chance to get a M818 for scrap price at my job. These trucks were used to move trailers around a land fill, I'm assuming only in low range. I looked under neath and found the linkages missing for the transfer case on all 4 of them we got in. I see the shaft coming out of the transfer case, now my question is which way is high range? I see it moves three different positions. Also is that all that has to be done to switch ranges is just moving the shaft via shifter? I tried searching and can't seem to come up with what I need. I just want to make sure high range works before I make a decision.

Yes middle is neautral and forward is high I think

So the shaft pulled all the way out or pushed inward?

One would think it would be opposite of what it is now because you said it is in low range. All the way in is high range.

Yes to what Floridianson said: Pulled all the way out (forward; to front of truck) is low range.
