Had issue with gauges not working after turning battery switch on. Replaced batteries as they where dead and still nothing. Replaced protective control box and switched battery switch on and gauges work. Flipped the start switch and nothing happened. Starter motor did not engage. The battery gauge is still in the red when turned on. Don't know if that is a issue or not. Any ideas what the problem might be?

Maybe the neutral safety switch is preventing the starter from engaging. If the shifter is not properly adjusted this can happen. The switch is on the transmission. It could also be a bad starter solenoid. Have someone cycle the start switch while you put a voltmeter or test light on the starter coil positive contact. It's simple troubleshooting it just takes time and an extra hand here and there.
