I recently brought home an M931. I noticed it had up and down movement in the steering column.
I removed the column and disassembled it completely and found that at some point the steering wheel had been removed and that allowed someone to push down on the shaft and the lower retaining clip and shaft slid down. Then, when the wheel was reinstalled the clip stayed outside the lower seal(outside and not in it correct position). Without it seated into its correct position, the shaft was not "centered" in it's correct position(and had up and down movement).
After looking through the TMs(both old and newer versions), I see that there are no exploded views of the column itself. I assume it is a non serviceable item.
I was able to figure it all out and reassemble it correctly. It now functions as it should.
My question is, there is a washer and spring just under the steering wheel. It is needed to keep that clip(at the bottom) seated and keep the shaft positioned in the tube.
The TMs do not show the washer or the spring. (In the picture, I drew the washer and spring in red to show where I was talking about)
Anyone else ever notice this?
