M939A2 CTIS Rear Hub Question

I'm finding conflicting info on if 5T (A2) CTIS rear hubs are grease or oil lubed bearings. Looks like grease inner and oil outer?

I'm converting the back half of a 923A2 to a trailer, and possibly retaining the CTIS since an A2 is a single channel CTIS system it should not know the difference if an additional axle is added. But, I'd like to remove the center differential and axle shafts of this trailer portion to lighten some weight and rotating mass. Therefore considering to discard those items and run greased inner and outer bearings, with front axle type hub end caps. Should an A1 type outer seal then be added if possible, or just plug the spindle center tube?

Put this in non-mod section because it is a factory configuration question, and possibly back-dating of such, if possible.
