MEP-002A Starts Stops After Switch is Moved to Run Position

Hi,

I'm new here and I hope I haven't missed the answer if it was previously posted.

I started the generator after not starting for several months. It will start and run only as long as the switch remains in the start position. When the switch returns to the run position the generator stops.

Could someone point me in the right direction for trouble shooting.

Thanks to all,

First welcome aboard.

Secondly, yes, you did miss the answer as this has been gone over MANY MANY times in the forum. BUT, to cover it one more time. It's more than likely one of your safety switches shutting the set back off. It's either the oil pressure switch located right beside the oil filter housing, or the high temp switch located inside the air box between the heads on the exhaust side of the engine.

One at a time, use a piece of wire and jump out the switches and try to start it. If it stays running, you've found your culprit. The oil pressure switch can be jumpered by placing a piece of wire across the 2 terminals of the switch. The high temp switch can be jumpered by removing the connector located on the outside (side) of the air box and using a small piece of wire and shorting the 2 holes in the connector together.

If the above doesn't help, the third thing is the K1 Start relay inside the control cubicle. But that is less likely than the above symptoms.
