Mep 018a won't start

Hi, i am very new and this is my first gen set but i am definitely mechanically inclined enough to understand the basics. It seems have fuel moving but no spark. I'm concerned i might be missing something on starting procedure? Does anyone have a walk through of start procedure or has anyone had similar issues? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Do you have the manuals?

The first step in troubleshooting is to get smart on the subject. The Operator's manual tells you the who, what and how about the set. Starting instructions are a must to read before trying to run it.

How long has it set, since it last ran?
Have you ever seen it run?
If its been a LONG time since it ran, you need to drain the old fuel out. Maybe use a carburetor cleaner on it.
How are the batteries? Full? Low? No good? Do you have access to a 24 volt power supply to jump the gen set off?
Have you performed a daily inspection on it IAW the TM? That might help you see if its all there, and if its hooked up.

Usually the spark issue is points in the magneto. They can be filed but usually don't last long after they are. Manuals will be your best bet.

Lets test to see if the mag even fires. It can fire, and the set will still not start. Having spent MANY hours trying to get the 017A and 018A to run, the magneto was one of the lesser problems. We need more info! Have you tested it? if so, how?
