Note: i have the wiring diagram

ac interrupt switch, S3, has 3 wires connected to it at positions 5,3&6. once the generator is on, flipping that switch up makes a connection between 5&6 which turns on ac (continuity tested).

turning off the ac is my question. i do not understand the wiring diagram for that switch and what its actually doing. i am trying to remotely flip that switch using a relay connected to my raspberrypi. i can turn the ac on but not off.

S5 OPENS the contactor by breaking the connection between S5-2 and S5-3 when S5 is pushed down.
24 volts is supplied to K1-X when the generator is running.
Once the contactor is closed the switch in the bottom of K1 below is closed (K1 11 to 12.)
K1-11 remains grounded by the path of K1-11 to K8-12, K8-11, K8-8, K8-7, S5-3, S5-2, Diode CR3 S5-5 to K1-11 holding K1 closed.
Breaking this path will cause the contactor to open.

i had to edit this post a couple of times due to understanding what you wrote. IF i understand correctly then breaking the grounded connection at point K1-11 should disconnect ac?

understanding the diagram
ac is off when s5-2 is connected to s5-3 & s5-5 is connected to s5-4?
and
ac is on when s5-2 is connected to s5-1 & s5-5 is NOT connected to s5-6?

the diagram you posted 'appears' different from the official diagram.
