Yeah, that's what I'm doing. I skipped McMaster though.... I ordered some Gardner Bender "split bolt connectors" on Amazon. The GSBC-4 connector nuts are sliiiiiightly too small. I've ordered some GSBC-3's and GSBC-2's - will see if we luck out on the threads and the thickness of the slot. I don't have high hopes really.If its just the hardware... maybe you just buy something like this and steal what you need:
