Mep004a cb1 trip caused by injector pump solenoid

I have been working my way through an issue with my generator.
Went to start it up prior to some yearly pm's.
Unit fired right up but died after about a minute.
Found cb1 tripped, reset and tried again, same result.
Started digging into it and ended up at the injector pump solenoid.
If I pull the ground wire, s2 to run, s9 on, no trip of cb1
Reattach ground, cb1 trips within 10 seconds.
Has anyone else seen an issue like this.
Is the solenoid a repairable item, or just replace?
Is it common for them to short internally?
The tech manual didn't really touch on the solenoid, more the pump itself.
No computer currently, so the manuals and wiring diagrams have been a challenge on a small screen.

A spare solenoid? That would be fantastic.
Oshkosh and a nos piece out of Austria on ebay are the only sources I have found yet.
In the mean time, disconnect both wires and measure the coils resistance. Then measure the resistance from each post to the chassis. I'll do the same on a known good one.

1.9 to 2.0 ohms across the two posts.
Outside post to ground started at 15 milli ohms and slowly rose past 22 milli ohms
Inside post to ground 17 milli ohms also slowly rose past 22
If you think it matters I can put clips on and see just how high it will get.
They both took about 30 to 45 seconds to go past 22 milli ohms.
I appreciate your help.

This solenoid is very common. Have you started started a "Parts Wanted" Thread? Have you looked up both NSN and part number to use in your search engine?

Hello,
No I haven't started a parts wanted thread.
I did search by nsn and the two other pn's I found (16355, and 22316)
To be honest I am not completely sure this is the problem yet.
There is a lot going on upstream of this solenoid and I am having some difficulty reading the schematics.
Tuesday I will be able to print large copies of the schematics and in the mean time I am trying to learn the way these drawings work.
I don't understand some of the symbols and the numbering/lettering conventions.

I dont know where you are getting those part numbers.

NSN: 2910-00-897-2459 Discontinued
NSN: 5945-01-188-3194 Discontinued
NSN: 5945-01-517-3434 Prime number

Part numbers:
27011 Stanadyne
5740668 AM General
RE37090 J. Deer
RE62241 J. Deer

Even though twp NSN's are Discontinued, use those numbers too.

The solenoid is probably your problem. Its rare they go bad, but they do.

I started with the NSN (2920-00-897-2459) and p/n 16355 from page 255 of the -24P manual.
The 22316 number came from Oshkosh equipments listing for this part.
I don't know these things inside and out like you (tech manuals), maybe I didn't dig deep enough.
I appreciate the information, but I would love to know how you got there.

Thanks Guy, might have to do that.
Ran 1 more test today before the rain hit.
Re attached the ground side, jumped 24 volts direct from batteries.
Heard the click, started the set, it ran for about 15 seconds and shut down.
Pulled the 24v jumper and tickled it again, no click, and top of ip was warm to touch.
Going to be a short week, and will be out of town for a bit.
Likely won't get the parts in time to do before I leave, but I will report back to finish this thread for others that might run into this.

Departure was delayed by a day, the stars aligned and everything showed up today.
Yay! Right?
Installed the new solenoid and gaskets.
Started the set, flashed field, oil pressure up, dropped to run position and set shut down.
Now I have an overvolt fault showing.
Reset faults and tried a couple more times, same result.
The last go around I held it in start position long enough to get a good look at the guages.
HZ was at 58, voltage was at 300.
At least cb1 doesn't trip any more.
Will be leaving tomorrow, but in the meantime, any thoughts/advice?
