I recently purchased a 2009 MEP 803A generator with 183 hours on it. Everything seemed to be working except it had a rattling noise. I took off the end cover of the generator rotor and found a bad bearing and half of balls were missing (only 7 remained ). I successfully removed the bad bearing. Looking at the bearing I found part number 6305-2RS1/LHTG4. Is this something I can find at a NAPA store near me? Or any suggestions on where to find this part? There are also traces of metal from the bearing failure in the magnets in the armature. Is there any way to clean that out or is that ok to leave as is? I also need two batteries for it. Does anyone know what type/ size batteries are required for this generator?

To read out the bearing, it is a type 6305 bearing (Deep groove single row ball bearing, 62mmOD, 25mm ID, 17mm width), the 2RS1 is two rubber seals, steel reinforced, and the "/LHTG4" refers to the grease inside, LHT = Clay Grease, Wide Range, 13cSt @ 40°C, Range -73 ~ 149°C, type G4).

You should be able to get it from any reliable bearing manufacturer, but I personally stick to SKF, ABB, Timken, or other quality bearing manufacturers. It is a very common size. I would measure the ID and the OD carefully, as I have found imperial and metric versions that differ slightly in dimensions (e.g. 1" vs 25mm, the latter is 0.0157" narrower).

As to the metal pieces on the armature, I would clean them out carefully, but I defer to the experts here. I would not sleep well knowing that they were there.

Most folks here seem to use type 34 or 51, and there is a really nice thread here;

All the best,

It's $44 at McMaster-Carr.

The special grease call out is not necessary, detrimental even. A standard bearing with polyurea grease should easily make 40,000 hours.

C3 clearance spec is standard for electric motors and generators.
