Inviting any/all military vehicles (and warbirds!) to attend two separate but related events. From the 9[SUP]th[/SUP] – 13[SUP]th[/SUP] of June we have the Vietnam Wall in Urbana, Ohio at the Armory (immediately south of the airport). On the 11[SUP]th[/SUP] of June we have Military Appreciation Day with a host of participants honoring our veterans.
If you elect to attend on Saturday the 11th, the brotherhood of tankers will marshal your vehicle directly into an encampment in front of the Wall to help “pull security.” We'll have 9 Vietnam era helicopters (including 2 Huey's/2 Cobras giving rides); 21 Vietnam era aircraft, 40+ vehicles on site. Add in 9 veterans organizations, recruiters from all services and 14 different museums. How about a 5k run, a parachute jump and a pancake breakfast to top things off!
If you'd like to join us for the parade welcoming the Wall to town, our staging area will be the County buildings at 1512 US Route 68 in Urbana, Ohio. Vehicles will form up starting at 0830LT/09 June (Thursday). We’d roll out at 1000LT. The parade route is 2.7 miles directly North on Main Street/Route 68 to the airport at about a 15 mph pace.
The order of march would be the Grimes jeep with Buzzy Monroe (VA rep) and I (so I can control the parade pace at 15 mph). Immediately behind us will be the Patriot Guard, then the Wall itself on a truck. Rolling Thunder and other motorcycle clubs (Leathernecks MC, US Marine Riders Assn, Resurrection Riders MC, In-Country MC, US Military Veterans MC, Combat Veterans MC, Sons of Mosby MC, Scroll Syndicate MC , Killer Man’s Son MC) would be immediately after the Wall. They are followed by all participating military vehicles and vehicles from the recruiters and the Department of Veteran’s Services. Public service vehicles follow (sheriff, police, village police, fire departments and Homeland Security). The TrueChat podcast studio will follow them podcasting the event and Bob Beech’s jeep will ride trail.
On arrival at the Armory bikes would proceed park directly behind the armory on blacktop. The Wall would pull into the grass directly in front of the Armory. Military vehicles veer right into the swale directly in front of the Wall. About 11 o’clock we’d have a formal “welcome to Urbana” ceremony. Jeff would say a benediction and Buzzy Moore, the local VA rep would share a few words with those of us assembled. We’d then proceed to put the Wall up.
We’ll have a formal opening ceremony for the Wall at 5 pm that evening. The Wall will be open 24/7 until it departs at 5 pm on Monday the 13[SUP]th[/SUP].
Come one - come all - the more the merrier!
