If you (I did) purchased a Cat 420D backhoe from Govplanet or other source, you may experience battery drain. Parasitic draw. The cause on mine was found to be the 12V/24V balancer under the green box on top of the battery box. There is a recall on these for fire hazard. The reason these are here is for the military requirement for 24V dc slave starting to/from other tactical vehicles. The Cat Tech said it was a Rub Goldberg piece of engineering. (a mess, a nightmare) No good fix. Well I don't need 24V capability. I told him lets keep this simple. Take out the 24V starter, alternator and glow plugs. Replace them with 12V ones. Wire the batts in parallel to provide more starting current and install a battery cutoff switch on the negative side.
