I had a no charging issue on one of my trucks. I went out and pulled an alternator off of a M813. The problem with my old one was pretty obvious, somebody had routed the small wire under the cover in the corner of the cover and the sharp edge vibrated through until the wire shorted. It burned some of the wire insulation back and it singed the corner of the cover.
It already had a clamp on butt connection, so I cut the harness open and stripped it back until I got a good clean wire. I took a section of the M813 harness and installed another butt connector, only I soldered mine in and ran double layer of heat shrink over it. Thought I was good until I went to attach the positive cable to the alternator. The post apparently stripped clean when the nut came off.
So now the plan is to go down to M6 and use a metric nut to clamp the cable on. I hope I can thread the brass post enough to get a M6 nut to hold. Unless somebody out there has a better option. I am open to brain storms.... Glen
